Sam Gaskins was born at the Blanchfield Army Hospital on May 3, 1978. His father was a Soldier in the United States Army and his mother a waitress. After his father left the military, the family moved to Wyoming. There, his father and grandfather helped start and run surface coal mines and raised horses until his father’s death in April, 1984. When it comes to knowing the true blue collar middle class life, Sam Gaskins was born into it.

Sam and his family moved to Hopkinsville shortly after his father’s death. He attended Christian County High School with two years of carpentry in the vocational school. His education also included working for roofing companies and tobacco farming. During this time, he learned a lot about hard work and determination.

After receiving his diploma, he enlisted into the Marine Corps as an Infantryman and served for 5 years. After an honorable discharge from the Corps, he returned to construction work and also obtained a night job to support his family. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, he reenlisted into the Army where he served for 8 years.

Sam Gaskins is married to Debbie Gaskins. They have three children; Sammy, Gabe, and Taylor. His life has always been about service, whether to country or family. He hopes to extend that service to the American people when he runs for congress in Kentucky’s first congressional district in 2016.
